Looking for Volunteers for Local 316/KASSI activity at the Kingston Fall Fair Education Day, Fri. Sept. 14

Local 316, in collaboration with KASSI (Kingston Area Seed System Initiative, will be participating in the education day program for elementary school students (approx. gr. 3 to 6) at Kingston Fall Fair, Friday Sept. 14, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm (We will be the busiest from 9:30 to 11:30 am and 1:30 to 2:30 pm).
No experience is necessary, just enthusiasm for seed saving and the connection between seeds and food.
We will be talking with the students and their teachers and parents about the importance of saving seeds and demonstrating simple seed saving techniques (eg. harvesting marigold seeds).
We will also be showing them growth stages for sweet corn.
Friday: The education day committee for the Fair is bringing together several food and farm organizations and businesses to engage students in learning about where their food comes from.
Saturday: We will have the booth and similar activities at the fair on Saturday, 10 am to 2 pm, if we have enough volunteers to staff the booth.
Please contact Dianne Dowling, at 613-546-0869 or <dowling@kos.net> to sign up for one (or more) hour shifts at the booth.
Please specify your preferred date(s) and time slot(s).
