Dianne Dowling, president, Local 316
My name is Patrick Clark. I am 29 and grew up in Ontario but have been living for the past four years in Ecuador where I did research for my PhD dissertation which is on food policy. I am now finishing my dissertation and living between Ontario and Ecuador where I teach and am involved in some research projects. Earlier this spring I decided to buy a house on an acre of land near Portland, Ontario in Leeds-Grenville, an hour and ten minute drive from downtown Ottawa and a forty five minute drive to Kingston. The house is spacious and my idea when I decided to buy the house was to create a co-living situation with folks who would be interested in developing small-scale market gardening. The area has good soil and my lot is surrounded by pastured cattle and hay fields so has a suitable barrier for organic gardening. The house has four bedrooms and would be suitable for three people or two couples to live in together.
What I am looking for:
-People with some experience in market gardening and farming and who would want to create and manage a market garden for summer 2017.
-Would be open to considering couples or singles.
-LGTBQ positive and open to folks of all backgrounds.
-The financial side of things is negotiable but the idea would be to divide the fixed costs and mortgage and also pay for some costs incurred in upgrading the house (the house had no plumbing or running water and is currently being renovated)
